Blizzard explained Camping: a Cooking fire becomes a Basic Campfire, a shared camp where nearby players rest and gain buffs from other professions' items. Up to 3 camp features fit around a basic fire, one per player, and anyone who sits or crafts there for 1 minute gets their effects. Each buff copies one that a class normally provides and does not stack with it.
Camping grows out of the simple Cooking Fire. A cook places a Basic Campfire, and it becomes a campsite any nearby player can use to rest and craft. Other players add profession-made camp features around it, and the people at the camp share their buffs. Blizzard pitches it as a reason to stop and meet other travellers rather than ride straight between cities.
A Basic Campfire takes up to 3 more camp features, and each player can contribute only one. To receive the other features' benefits you sit or craft at the camp for at least 1 minute; Blizzard also describes it as resting briefly by the fire. Every camp feature needs a campfire close by, and they all share a cooldown of 1 hour.
An early quest introduces the system. Once a profession reaches skill 20, its first camp items come from starter-zone quests or can be bought from that profession's trainer. Items that need skill 140 or higher drop in dungeons and raids. Cooks can later learn bigger campfires that hold five or 10 features, and other professions unlock work stations such as Alchemy Laboratories and Tanning Racks.
The article restates the profession rules. Every character can learn all three secondary professions, Cooking, Fishing and First Aid, and two primary ones from Skinning, Mining, Herbalism, Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Trainers are found in the world and in major cities, and a profession is dropped from the Professions tab (K) with the X beside it. Ranks run Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, Artisan.
