Almost there!

On 17 September Blizzard said many players were waiting to get into the beta and that a few last issues remained before opening. A second post said the opening was happening gradually rather than all at once.

"Go Again!" World of Warcraft: Forever Hardcore Panel | BlizzCon 2026

This BlizzCon panel, "Go Again", looked at the past, present and future of Hardcore. On stage were a lead software engineer, a principal game designer and a senior game designer from the WoW team. The developers said Hardcore will not be in WoW Forever at launch, but is coming soon. The first half is history. They described Hardcore as a community-made idea that grew out of players' one-life challenge to reach 60. During Season of Mastery in 2021 the community organised a Road to Ragnaros event, and the team added a simple Soul of Iron buff, which an NPC gave you until you died. Later a producer tracked Hardcore's daily peak concurrency, which went from around 150 to 200 players to about 1,500 after a holiday break. The team pitched it to Blizzard leadership, who were at first lukewarm, built a prototype in about two weeks with no resurrection, and got the go-ahead. The release was announced on a community event's finale. They also said that the move to official realms meant testing for unfair deaths, interface changes such as handing over a guild when its leader dies, and letting a dead character move to normal realms. On what to expect in Forever Hardcore, they listed the new trade skill content, with over 600 new crafting recipes, the camping system for buffs, hundreds of new crafted items, better dungeon drops, and silver elites with new drops. A new feature built for Hardcore, though it will work across the whole game, warns players with a countdown (for example 3 minutes) before the world around them refreshes and creatures respawn, with a button to say you are somewhere safe. Blizzard said it will test the system in the beta. A Hardcore character that dies can now move to the PvP, normal or RP ruleset, where before the only choice was PvE. Legacy points and collections earned outside Hardcore, such as mounts and pets, do not carry into it, while those earned in Hardcore carry out to the other rulesets. A Legacy point is earned on reaching level 25 on a class, so a character that dies afterwards still leaves a small permanent benefit. Since Legacy's PvP challenges cannot be done in Hardcore, Blizzard says it plans Hardcore-specific challenges for when Hardcore launches, and is thinking about adding more later. The developers also said they will keep adding content at all level ranges, update after update, so Hardcore players have new things to master.

Krol’dok Stronghold

Blizzard corrected Krol'dok Stronghold's level range: in WoW Forever it is for levels 40-45, not the range some BlizzCon material showed. The same post lists all nine new dungeons with their level ranges, from The Hall of Thanes at 13-18 to Shaper's Terrace at 58-60.

World of Warcraft: Forever - Evolving a Timeless World | BlizzCon 2026

This BlizzCon talk explains how Blizzard changed the look of the world for WoW Forever. It was given by lead environment artist Matt Haymon and lead software engineer Jason Scott. Haymon opens with Duskwood to show the goal: Azeroth as you remember it, a blend of the original Vanilla version and the one in players' heads. He says the work covers brand-new zones such as the Skyborne starting zone and the Riverglades (which players will probably reach around level 30), changes to existing areas such as Dalaran now sitting openly beside the Alterac Mountains, and around 40 existing zones. Each zone is treated as a character with its own palette, mood and atmosphere. The guiding principle was that everything must be authentic to the world, the art style and players' memories, and that nothing changes just for the sake of change. Durotar is the example: the answer is to push its arid, red-rock fantasy, not to turn it cool blue or foggy green. New assets also keep the gritty Vanilla look of the original models and textures. Scott then covers rendering in three groups. Fog: the original distance fog was partly a way to hide a limited draw distance, and Forever replaces it with volumetric fog, which can form pockets, catch light and shadow, move, and carry dust. From the Barrens you can now make out Durotar, Ashenvale and the world tree on Mount Hyjal, and in the Wetlands you can see Dun Morogh's mountains and Dalaran in the distance. Light shining through the fog produces light rays. Lighting: the sun and moon positions used not to match the light cast into the world, and terrain did not block it. Now mountains and terrain shadow properly and the sun and moon line up with the light. Shadows used to be filled with flat ambient light, so Forever adds a custom ray-traced global illumination system that bounces light and picks up surface colours, and it runs even on the minimum hardware requirements, so every player gets it. Water: new wave size and wind control, rivers that flow along their path and form foam around rocks (even uphill where the lore wants it), a new water shader for density, absorption and colour, and reflections of the whole environment, sun and moon included. Haymon stresses that this is not a filter: the team rebuilt each zone's lighting and atmosphere from the ground up against the original 1.12 debug client at every time of day, and he rebuilds Duskwood step by step, pulling back saturation and bloom when it went too far from the Wow style. The talk closes by giving 4 November as the launch date.

World of Warcraft: Forever - Deep Dive | BlizzCon 2026

Blizzard's BlizzCon Deep Dive covers camping, transmog, Legacy, realmless rulesets, itemization, racial changes and the Paladin talent rework. Developers describe camp sites where nearby players share crafted buffs, more than 600 new recipes and an opt-in transmog system. Legacy points are shared across characters, with 16 spendable per character at launch, and players pick a ruleset instead of a realm. Items get a large overhaul, with hit and crit merged and no Resilience, and every talent tree gains a fourth one-point talent at 16 points. The Paladin section describes Holy Strike, Seal of Fury and a Consecration that hits four targets hard.

World of Warcraft: Forever - Creator Showcase | BlizzCon 2026

At BlizzCon, Blizzard showed the Dalaran and Drowned City dungeons while five creators played them. Dalaran is Alliance-only and opens once its dungeon is cleared, while the Drowned City is a level 35 to 40 troll dungeon off Stranglethorn's coast. Most of the near-two-hour stream is gameplay; developers also covered immunities, a personal Shaman Bloodlust and the BlizzCon-era Hot Streak design, which a later beta build reworked.

World of Warcraft: Forever | Gameplay Trailer

Blizzard's WoW Forever gameplay trailer is just under three minutes of in-game footage set to music. It opens with a brief narration about the stories Azeroth has not yet told. At the What's Next panel, Blizzard's associate production director said the trailer was the first look at Forever's rendering updates, and admitted the team leaned hard on sunrise and sunset light for it: not every zone will look like that all day. The aim, he said, is to keep the classic art and change only the environmental effects.

World of Warcraft: Forever | New Horizons | Cinematic Trailer

New Horizons is WoW Forever's reveal cinematic, a film of nearly four minutes that brings back the Dwarf hunter from the original WoW cinematic. This time he takes another road. Along the way Dalaran's purple dome comes down and the city opens to him, he clashes with a Forsaken paladin, the World Tree stands on Mount Hyjal, and a land in the clouds introduces the Skyborne. A short narration frames it, about Azeroth's untold stories calling players home. Each of those scenes stands for something Forever adds: a Dalaran dungeon, the Undead Paladin, Hyjal as a leveling zone and a new elf race.
