Ashenvale
A vast ancient forest in northern Kalimdor, where night elves and the Horde clash over its trees.
Overview
Ashenvale is the ancestral homeland of the night elves, with Astranaar as the Alliance's main settlement and Splintertree Post as the Horde's base in the east. Satyrs, furbolgs and hostile fauna threaten travelers while both factions contest the land.

Lore
During the Third War, goblins under Neeloc Greedyfingers began cutting down the forest before Grom Hellscream's Warsong orcs arrived. Cenarius restored the felled trees and tried to drive out the orcs, and Grom, tricked by the Burning Legion, drank from a demonic blood fountain and killed him.
Grom had been the first orc to drink Mannoroth's blood, which bound the orcs to the Legion. In Demon Fall Canyon he and Thrall fought Mannoroth, and Grom drove his axe Gorehowl into the demon's chest. Mannoroth died, the curse broke, and Grom was lost in the blast.
