Stratholme

Five-player burning city in Eastern Plaguelands with a Scarlet side ending in Balnazzar, an undead side ending in Baron Rivendare, and 19 client bosses.

Hearthsinger Forresten

A rare ghost in Market Row, between the Main Gate and Service Entrance sides. He lulls a player to sleep, stunning them until they take damage or 8 seconds pass. Interrupt the lullaby when you can. He also uses Multi-Shot against a random player and their neighbors, so spread out a little.

His dodge rises by 50 percent while he is in combat. He drops Piccolo of the Flaming Fire.

In short: interrupt the lullaby, spread out.

Hearthsinger Forresten’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Ranged damage to a random player and up to 2 nearby allies.
Sleeps a player for 8 seconds or until they take damage; interruptible.
Demoralizing ShoutReduces melee attack power of nearby players for 30 seconds.

Timmy the Cruel

A ghoul who stands just outside the courtyard of the Scarlet Bastion. He looks like the other ghouls, so do not skip him by mistake. He is a simple tank-and-spank fight, but he hits hard, so the tank needs good healing.

Ravenous Claw heals him for the damage it deals. At half health he enrages, doing more damage and attacking faster, so save cooldowns for the second half.

In short: tank and spank, burn him down after the enrage.

Timmy the Cruel’s abilities
AbilityEffect
EnrageAt 50% health: 10% more Physical damage and 30% faster melee.
Physical damage to the target; heals him for the damage dealt.
ThrashTwo extra melee attacks.

Malor the Zealous

A crazed Scarlet paladin alone in a side room of the Scarlet Bastion, guarding a strongbox with the Medallion of Faith. You can clear the way to the room and take him down easily, or bypass him. The Medallion matters later, because it gets help against Baron Rivendare.

His Ground Smash stuns nearby players, so ranged should stay back. He heals with Holy Light and uses Lay on Hands on himself at 5 to 1 percent health, so burst him past that point.

In short: ranged stay back from the stun, burst him at the end.

Malor the Zealous’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Physical damage to nearby enemies and a 3 second stun.
Heals an ally.
Lowers an enemy's Stamina by 1 for 20 seconds.
Heals an ally for the caster's maximum health and drains his mana.

Cannon Master Willey

A Scarlet mini-boss in the Hoard. He is not hard by himself, but Crimson Riflemen keep arriving, stand in one spot and shoot your group. The cannons beside him kill the riflemen if you load them with ammo from the piles.

Pick a Cannon Boy before the fight, ideally a healer or ranged damage dealer. Fire the cannon now and then to clear the riflemen, but save ammo. Keep at least one cannonball for the end, because his death spawns a crowd of riflemen. Knock Away knocks its target back.

In short: assign a Cannon Boy, save one ball for the end.

Cannon Master Willey’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Damage and a knockback on the target.
Summon Crimson RiflemanSummons Crimson Riflemen who shoot the group.
PummelInterrupts a spell for 5 seconds.

Archivist Galford

A human in the last corridor of the Scarlet Bastion, guarding the Archive. He has two spells, both Fire. Burning Winds stuns a target and burns it for 1600 Fire damage over 8 seconds, so heal that player. Fire Nova hits everyone close to him, so ranged stay away.

Killing him lets you use a book on his desk to burn the Archive, which finishes a quest.

In short: heal the Burning Winds target, ranged stay out of Fire Nova.

Archivist Galford’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Stuns a target and deals 1600 Fire damage over 8 seconds.
Fire damage to nearby enemies.

Balnazzar

The last boss of the Scarlet side, in the Crimson Throne. He starts as Grand Crusader Dathrohan and changes into the dreadlord Balnazzar at 40% health with full health and mana. He keeps aggro through the change.

Shield the tank and engage Dathrohan first. Let the tank build threat before the rest of the group opens up. Pull him to face the back wall, away from the group, and keep ranged 10 to 15 yards back to avoid his stun. Crusader's Hammer stuns nearby enemies, and Crusader Strike stacks extra Holy damage on the tank.

Do not change tactics when he becomes Balnazzar. Keep him away from casters. Most of his spells are magic and can be dispelled. Sleep puts one player down for up to 20 seconds, Psychic Scream makes up to five nearby players flee, Shadow Shock hits everyone close by, Mind Blast causes a lot of threat, and Domination takes control of a low-level humanoid. When he dies, undead spawn outside the room, so fighting at the back wall helps.

In short: tank at the back wall, ranged away, dispel Sleep, fear protection on the tank.

Balnazzar’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Shadow damage with high threat (both forms).
Takes control of a humanoid enemy up to level 25 for 15 seconds (Balnazzar).
Shadow damage to nearby enemies in 15 yards (Balnazzar).
Magic: sleeps one enemy for up to 20 seconds; damage wakes it (Balnazzar).
Magic: up to 5 nearby enemies flee for 6 seconds (Balnazzar).
Damage; the target takes more Holy damage per stack, up to 5 stacks for 30 seconds (Dathrohan).
Holy-based weapon strike (Dathrohan).
Stuns nearby enemies for 4 seconds in 20 yards (Dathrohan).

The Unforgiven

An elite wraith in Market Row on the Main Gate side. She appears when you walk past an archway after the turn that follows the rat gate trap, near Hearthsinger Forresten. Her appearance is scripted, so rest the group first. She brings four Vengeful Phantoms, and some small adds, which a mage can handle.

She casts Frost Nova now and then. Unrelenting Anguish is a channeled Shadow spell that can be interrupted. This is an easy fight.

In short: rest first, area damage on the phantoms, interrupt the channel.

The Unforgiven’s abilities
AbilityEffect
She casts it now and then.
Unrelenting AnguishChanneled Shadow damage over 5 seconds; interruptible.
Vengeful PhantomFour phantoms come with her; they use Frost Shock.

Baroness Anastari

A banshee on top of the first ziggurat of the Gauntlet on the undead side. Her Possess takes control of a random group member, boosts their health and damage, and holds them for up to 2 minutes or until they fall to 50% health. Nuke her fast while she is in banshee form, to limit possession cycles.

To free a possessed player, damage them to 50% health, and they get a full heal when it ends. Or crowd control them until it fades, which is gentler but slower. Mages can use Ice Block and paladins can use Divine Shield to clear the possession on themselves. Do not use area fear, because it hurts your own group. Keep a heal-over-time on the tank, since a possessed healer cannot heal.

Banshee Curse lowers the hit chance of everyone near her by 35 percent for 12 seconds, and Silence stops spellcasting for 6 seconds.

In short: burst her down, free the possessed player, no area fear.

Baroness Anastari’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Curse: nearby players lose 35% hit chance for 12 seconds.
PossessTakes control of a random player for up to 2 minutes or until they reach 50% health.

Nerub'enkan

A crypt fiend that guards one of the three ziggurats before the Slaughter House. She is the hardest hitter of the three ziggurat bosses and is immune to stuns and immobilizing effects. She raises Undead Scarabs, which poison their targets.

Crypt Scarabs hit her target with Physical damage. Pierce Armor cuts armor by half for 10 seconds, so heal the tank through it. Encasing Webs holds a player in place and slows their attacks; it can shake her off the tank briefly, so be ready to taunt.

In short: kill the scarabs, heal through Pierce Armor, taunt after the web.

Nerub'enkan’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Immobilizes a player and doubles the time between their melee attacks for 5 seconds.
Reduces her target's armor by 50% for 10 seconds.
Sends scarabs at her target for Physical damage.

After you kill him, destroy the Ash'ari crystal.

Magistrate Barthilas

A wight and the former magistrate of the city, found near Elders' Square, or at the end of the Gauntlet if you enter through the Service Entrance. The fight is simple with one problem: he punts the tank a long way. Put the tank with their back to a wall, and make sure no skipped mobs stand behind. The punt wipes or cuts the tank's threat, so DPS should run toward the tank, not away, if he turns on them. He can be taunted.

Furious Anger stacks up to 25 times, so do not let the fight drag. Crowd Pummel hits everyone within 10 yards, interrupts casting and knocks them back, so casters stay out of that range. Draining Blow heals him.

In short: tank against a wall, taunt after the punt, burn him before the stacks build.

Magistrate Barthilas’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Physical damage within 10 yards, interrupts casting for 4 seconds and knocks players back.
Physical damage that knocks his target back.
Furious AngerMore damage and attack speed for 1 minute; stacks up to 25 times.
Shadow damage that heals him for the damage dealt.

Ramstein the Gorger

An abomination in Slaughter Square. He hits very hard but moves slowly. Now and then he stuns the tank with Knockout and goes after a random target. Fight him in an open area, so the targeted player can walk away until the tank recovers and takes aggro again. In a closed space someone will probably die.

Trample hits everyone close to him. After a critical hit, Flurry speeds up his next three attacks.

In short: fight in the open, kite the random target, heal the tank through Flurry.

Ramstein the Gorger’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Physical damage to nearby players.
Physical damage, knocks his target back and stuns it for 4 seconds.

Baron Rivendare

The last boss of the undead side, in the Slaughter House. He is a death knight whose Unholy Aura deals Shadow damage to everyone in range. He also raises skeletons from the bone piles in his room in waves. If the skeletons live long enough, he uses Death Pact on them to kill them and heal himself.

Put the tank and the Baron against one wall, and healers and ranged against the opposite wall, out of the aura. The tank and melee take the aura. A priest's Shadow Protection or a paladin's Shadow Resistance Aura helps. The skeletons usually go for the healer, so stand a mage or warlock next to them and use area damage as they run in. A priest with Holy Nova or a paladin with Holy Wrath also works. Stratholme Holy Water kills a wave. Mortal Strike cuts healing on the tank by half.

Set pets to passive before you enter, because the aura can start the fight early. If you have the Medallion of Faith from the live side, an NPC at the start of the undead side helps when you attack him.

In short: aura wall for the tank, healers on the far wall, area damage on skeletons.

Baron Rivendare’s abilities
AbilityEffect
300% weapon damage and 50% less healing on the target for 5 seconds.
Melee hit on the target and its nearest allies, up to 3 targets.
Shadow damage bolt at an enemy.
Passive aura: Shadow damage every 2 seconds to nearby enemies, about 27 yards.
Raise DeadRaises skeletons.
Death PactDestroys one of his minions and heals him.

Black Guard Swordsmith

An optional skeleton on the undead side that appears only when you pick up Blacksmithing Plans to the right of the stairs of the first ziggurat. Baroness Anastari is at the top of that ziggurat, so clear the area before taking the plans. He attacks as soon as he appears and is a member of the Black Guard.

He has no described abilities beyond melee. The client lists only a generic Dazed effect.

In short: clear the area first, then pick up the plans and kill him.

Black Guard Swordsmith’s abilities
AbilityEffect
DazedGeneric effect; no description.

Crimson Hammersmith

An optional human smith who appears when you pick up a parchment of Blacksmithing Plans. The plans can appear on the floor of the Hoard before Cannon Master Willey, or on a bench in the alcoves where Archivist Galford stands. He appears and attacks.

Bone Smelt does heavy Fire damage and cuts armor by half for 20 seconds, so the tank needs healing.

In short: clear the area before taking the plans, heal through Bone Smelt.

Crimson Hammersmith’s abilities
AbilityEffect
1050 to 1350 Fire damage and 50% less armor for 20 seconds.

Ezra Grimm

An undead former tobacconist who is summoned in King's Square by opening his tobacco box. Clear every mob within sight first, because they all join the fight, and a wipe means he despawns. His Smoke Bomb stuns nearby enemies, and his Flame Breath burns in a cone, so stand out of the cone.

In short: clear the area first, leave the fire cone.

Ezra Grimm’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Stuns nearby enemies for 3 seconds.
Fire damage in a cone in front of him.

Postmaster Malown

An optional ghost you summon. Kill the Stratholme Courier near the entrance and he drops three keys that open mailboxes around the gates. Each box you open releases three Undead Postmen. Opening the third box brings Malown with three more, so you face four elites at once. Malown hits very hard, and his helpers stack curses.

Do not remove every curse at once, because they come back fast. Heal through the damage, keep health high, and decurse near the end.

In short: keep health high, decurse late, kill the helpers fast.

Postmaster Malown’s abilities
AbilityEffect
A curse.

Skul

A rare skeletal mage with a very low spawn rate. He can appear with the undead in front of the Stratholme Courier or in Festival Lane. He can make the Courier pull more difficult, so watch for him. He casts Arcane Bolt, Frostbolt and Frost Shock, and wears Frost Armor, so melee attackers are slowed.

Interrupt his casts.

In short: rare spawn, interrupt his bolts.

Skul’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Arcane damage bolt.
Frost damage that slows the target for 8 seconds.
Frost damage that slows the target for 4 seconds.
Frost ArmorArmor that slows melee attackers and delays their attacks.

Stonespine

A rare gargoyle that sometimes takes the place of a Rockwing Gargoyle or Rockwing Screechers on the Gauntlet patrol on the undead side. Because the gargoyles patrol, the danger is that he joins a fight already in progress. He is larger and grayer than the others. His Vicious Rend bleed stacks and hurts more as it stacks, so heal through it and kill him quickly.

In short: rare patrol spawn, do not let him join a pull, burn him before the bleed stacks.

Stonespine’s abilities
AbilityEffect
Physical bleed every 3 seconds for 15 seconds; stacks.
